• Student Information: Student names, grades, province of residence
• Activity Data: Logged learning activities, subjects, durations, descriptions
• Planning Data: Weekly plans, field trips, shopping lists, saved ideas
• Provincial Forms: Information you provide to generate compliance reports
• Payment Information: Processed securely by Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers)
• Communications: Messages you send us via contact forms or email

• Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent in the app
• Device Information: Browser type, operating system, IP address
• Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Homeschool Hero service
• Create and manage your account
• Generate provincial compliance reports
• Send deadline reminders and notifications (Hero tier only)
• Process payments and manage subscriptions
• Respond to your support requests and questions
• Improve and optimize our service
• Send important service updates and announcements
• Prevent fraud and ensure platform security

We do NOT:

• Sell your personal information to third parties
• Use your data for advertising or marketing to third parties
• Share your student information with anyone

We only share your information with trusted service providers who help us operate Homeschool Hero:

• Supabase: Database hosting and authentication (Privacy Policy)
• Resend: Transactional email delivery (Privacy Policy)
• Stripe: Payment processing (Privacy Policy)
• Vercel: Application hosting (Privacy Policy)

These service providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and only use it to provide services to us.

We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.

4. Data Security

We take data security seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect your information:

• All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
• Passwords are hashed and encrypted
• Database access is restricted and monitored
• Regular security updates and patches
• Payment information is processed securely by Stripe (PCI-compliant)

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you delete your account:

• Your account data is permanently deleted within 30 days
• Anonymized usage data may be retained for analytics
• Legal or accounting records may be retained as required by law

Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA) and GDPR (if applicable), you have the right to:

7. Children's Privacy

Homeschool Hero is designed for use by parents and guardians, not children. Our service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Student information (names, grades) is provided by parents/guardians and is used solely for homeschool planning and compliance purposes.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

• Essential Cookies: Required for authentication and security
• Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and preferences
• Analytics: Understand how users interact with our service (if enabled)

You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may affect functionality.

Your data may be stored and processed in Canada and the United States through our service providers (Supabase, Vercel). These providers comply with applicable data protection laws and use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
